HD Hyundai Begins Construction of Engine Factory in Saudi Arabia

news-details

Makeen (meaning “strong”, “power” in Arab), a joint venture between HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Saudi Arabian Development Co. (SADCO) and Saudi Arabian Industrial Investments Co. (Dussur), held a groundbreaking ceremony for an engine factory in Ras Al-Khair, Saudi Arabia.

The engine plant will be built in an area of 150,000 square meters in the King Salman Global Maritime Industries Complex in Ras Al-Khair near Jubail, a city in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia and begin full-scale production in the fourth quarter of 2025. The maximum annual production capacity will be 30 two-stroke low speed engines, 235 four-stroke medium speed engines, and 160 marine pumps.

It is the first time that HD Hyundai will manufacture the independently developed HiMSEN engine overseas. It has significance that it is the first engine licensing business to receive royalties and to secure a stable foothold in the international engine market.

As HD Hyundai founder Chung Ju-Yung created the Middle East legend by successful completing the Jubail Industrial harbor project in the 1970s, HD Hyundai plans to continue creating legends by building ships in the desert with their new shipyard and engine factory in Jubail.
